Katniss has totally become the Mockingjay in this final book of the trilogy. She is the rebels' symbol and pawn in the upcoming war that will finally destroy the Capitol and bring some peace to Panem. We find out that District 13 really does exist and headquarters the rebels. We also see Katniss torn between Peeta and Gale, unable to decide who has been her best ally, since she loves them both. To be honest this is the first book of the series that I actually read. The first two I listened to the audio versions on my iPod. Now I I wish I had read all of them! This book blew me away. Even though it is intended for a young adult audience, the writing goes beyond that genre. Collins portrayal of the raw and sometimes disturbing emotions that Katniss and the other characters go through is tangible. I listened to this in a car drive to and from New Hampshire. It is a bit like Harry Potter where Katniss gets whiny and you want to shake her. But, it didn't ultimately detract from the story. I definitely felt put through the ringer and while the ending was a good ending, I was definitely sad. Such is the ongoing ripples of what the Capital created and the destruction that it caused. a fitting conclusion - the series ended the way I thought it should! A bit of a twist at the end, but an insightful and entirely possible futuristic view of war and it's atrocities.

I still love the ending, but as a whole I didn't enjoy Mockingjay as much the second time around.
