This Newbery winning title opens with the man Jack killing a family... well, all but the toddler, who goes to the graveyard at the top of the hill, and is given sanctuary by the ghosts who live there. They name him Nobody Owens ( the ghosts Mr. and Mrs. Owens are his adoptive parents), or Bid for short. He has a guardian, Silas, who can leave the graveyard, and provides for Bod. This was a fun/cute story about a boy who was raised by ghosts in a graveyard. I enjoyed that each of the chapters was like a little vignette. I think my favorite was "Dance Macabre" and loved that they used the song as a chapter separator in the audiobook - brought me back to my high school band days. I loved the colorful cast of characters that supported Bod growing up, especially Liza and Silas. The ending was a little sad because there isn't room for a sequel, but I loved it anyway.
