This book is everything....a mystery, a love story, a coming of age story, a look at mothers and daughters, a beautiful scientific study of elephants, a study of grief, and a little bit of psychic thrown in . Jodi Picoult’s books are so well researched, I don’t know how she does it. I enjoyed this so much. Even the cover art is beautiful. One of Picoult’s best!

I really enjoyed this, and thought the twist at the end served the storyline. Leaving Time is a story of a young girl looking for her mother, a dedicated researcher in elephant grief. Chapters are in different points of view, including 13-year-old Jenna Metcalf (the young woman), her mother Alice Metcalf's (the researcher) journals, a private eye named Virgil, and a psychic named Serenity who has fallen from grace due to a botched "missing child" prediction. I would have loved this book had it not ended the way it did. I especially enjoyed reading about the elephants and Alice's research and how Jenna would not be deterred from searching for her mother. I don't want to reveal any spoilers so I'll leave it at that.

I have to admit I've been meaning to try one of Jodi Picoult's books. I wasn't sure if she was my type of writer. After reading "Leaving Time" though, I'm glad I chose this book to read. It had a story that held my attention with interesting characters; my favorite character was Serenity Jones. I enjoyed exploring the mysteries of this book through Serenity's eyes and I also enjoyed the multiple viewpoints from the characters. I think most people will also like the twist at the end.
