From the Bookshelf of MCLS Reading Challenge…

[close] When I was a kid, I'd see this title being read by characters in books I was reading, but I never actually read the book itself! All these years it's been on my TBR list!

Now that I've read it, I must admit that it was actually a challenging read for me. It is quite evident that the book was written in the 1960s, what with the language used (Ole Golly referred to as a nurse) and dialogue between characters.

I think this would be very hard for children today to read off the shelf and understand some of the language and context without an adult to help flesh some of that out.
