An interesting, albeit uneven, collection of short stories. When the writing is good it's really, really good. The second story, Reeling for the Empire, is one of the best short stories I've read in ages. And The Barn at the End of Our Term has a premise that made me laugh out loud. Lovely writing and really cool subjects. Kind of like an abstract painting though...I'd get to the end and wonder what it meant, if any thing. I've decided, however, that I don't care...like a trip, the destination doesn't matter of you've enjoyed the ride. ...more
