" Salt to the Sea" brought the tragedy of the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff to life for me. I encourage lovers of historical fiction, not just teen readers - to read this book. By using the distinct voices of four teenagers; Joana, Florian, Emilia, and Alfred, she weaves together the impact of war. Fantastic historical fiction about four young adults who struggle on a journey to board the Wilhelm Gustloff to freedom following the horrors of WW II. Chased by the ghosts of guilt, shame, fate and fear. I was not familiar with the story of this tragedy; a ship built for 1500 passengers that attempted to carry over 10,000 to freedom. I'm so glad I read this book....Thank you Mindy, for the recommendation!
