Loved this physiological thriller, read it late into the night until it was over. It is very well written. I loved the way the author slowly revealed the story. The format is my favorite type of read...flipping back and forth between characters, and their perspectives of what is happening. I spend a lot of time speculating on what was going on. I found it hard to get interested in the storyline at first. Rachel has lost her job but still takes the train everyday. She "spies" on people who live along the route, one couple in particular who live down the street from her ex and his new wife. Rachel then gets involved in their lives under the guise of being helpful. She's an alcoholic, and until I realized that things weren't as they seemed, I didn't find the story all that compelling. But finally it clicked and I couldn't put it down!

This book was obviously trying to be the next Gone Girl. And that's not really a bad thing, it just meant that I had very high expectations for this book. While it was definitely very well written and the pacing was good, I just wasn't very happy with the characters or the twist at the end. I wasn't surprised at all and I saw it coming the whole time. I was disappointed in this book. It was hyped as this year's Gone Girl and because of that had a lot to live up to. Unfortunatley it missed the mark. Not the best novel I've ever read but not the worst either.
