I loved this middle grade historical fiction. A very inspiring story. I loved the character of Ada, and how willing she was to learn and grow. Her birth mother - an awful, abusive person. Kudos to Mrs. Smith, who despite her own grief of her recently deceased partner, who took in these two children escaping the bombing in London. To me, it showed the anxiety that Ada felt - learning to trust Susan Smith, thanks to her own mother's abuse. A story of siblings, war, and hope. Loved it!
