What an absolutely gorgeous, touching, hopeful, humorous book. The story centers on Keb Wisting, half Norwegian, half Tlingit, with a touch of a few other things thrown in. Keb is about 95 years old, no one is sure exactly, and lives in a small village, Jinkaat, near Sitka, Alaska. Keb thinks he might be almost ready to die. He was raised by an uncle after the death of his parents, and his uncle taught him all the Tlingit ways of hunting, fishing, living. He had been a master canoe carver, using ...more
