It has been awhile since I read this book, and I've probably lost a few brain cells since then! I may re-read it.
My impression was that I wanted to read it to understand what attracted others to Alaska in the 70's to live off the land. When I arrived in 1968 as a newly married bride with a child on the way, I thought it would be adventurous to live in Alaska for a year and earn my private pilot license, but after seeing the tough conditions experienced by some of our homesteading friends, it w ...more
