This is an impossible book for me to rate and review. It's well written, impeccably edited (only found one lonely little typo), and the suspense is thick. Sounds great, right?
Apart from all of the good stuff, I had a hard time reading this book. The main character, Rachel, is an alcoholic. She's depressed, and the writing was good enough that I was all too easily put into her shoes. I found that I could only read small bits at a time, or I would find myself feeling down. I was really up and ready for a three star book until the middle. But as the story progressed to the third act, it started getting better. A lot better. And especially the end twist was amazing. I was shocked and also contended. That's how it should end.
But there are also a lot of loose ends here. For them I am really kind of angry. But that's the problem with first person narrative. You can't tell readers what your character don't know.
