The first few chapters were so dense and weighted down with allusive description in every phrase that I wondered if I was going to be able to finish the meal. Each mouthful felt like it had not just to be slowly digested but ruminated. Fortunately, this phase passed and the prose became more flowing.

Tim Winton captures the essence of where society is heading. His writing is reminiscent of J. B. Ballard's style.
