I loved this. I thought it was clever and didn't take itself too seriously, but I was invested in Mike and his friends and what was happening to them. It's not going out much, which is too bad.

Another great magical realism story, completely different from Bone Gap. Know all those books about kids saving the world during an apocalypse, alien invasion, or dealing with vampires? Well, this book is basically about everybody else - they know the vampires are there, they know there is something wrong in the world, but it hasn't really affected them yet and they are just trying to graduate high school. After seeing and listening to the very handsome and engaging author at SLJ's Day of Dialog back in May, I finally found time to start reading it recently. I hadn't read much teen fiction in the past few years because I am currently a children's librarian but I enjoy getting into that teen mindset again. One theme that I recall reading a lot in teen fiction over the years is the parents who ignore their kids.
