Updated review:
After re reading this book I've definitely fallen in love with the characters and this world. The story was definitely much more intriguing this time around. And I enjoyed the writing just as much. I'm still torn about the love story. It's still way to insta love for me. But other than that it was a much better experience the second time.

Everything I said before stands. Reread to discuss with a group and I just...love everything about this book and this series. Truly a favorite

On re-read, I think I am bumping this up to five stars. I love this world so much. Karou and Zuzana are friendship goals forever. The fact that Taylor can take plot devices that normally make me either roll my eyes or sigh in disgust and makes them enjoyable makes me appreciate her more than I did the first time through. I love that Karou ...more

I am so glad that my curiosity finally got the better of me on this! Seeing this book on so many shelves, hearing people talk about it, I was always intrigued. When I found the audiobooks on Overdrive, I had no excuse not to give it a try. SO glad I did! Karou was such a fun protagonist. She was just weird enough that I could appreciate her without being taken out of the story. And her sassy, spunk friend Zuzana was great! I went into this story pretty blind, so everything was a surprise to me.

Enjoyed this more than I expected.
1. World unlike one I've ever read about before.
2. Not an annoying main protagonist.
3. Love interest that develops in the latter half of the novel that is based on something besides instant attraction. ...more

I went into this book not knowing a whole lot about what it was about. I really enjoyed this story and immediately downloading the 2nd one onto my audio book app to start listening to it. I need to know what happens next! I found the character interesting and felt that they have a lot of depth to them. This book gave me emotions including yelling, sighing and almost tearing up so that is always a good sign.

I now see why people like this series so much I might have another author to delve into this book is pretty easy to get into but the shit hits the fan after chapter 30 but most of all I found myself wanting Karou and Akiva to just survive namely these two go through so much that you might wind up not wanting to put this book down.
