What Members Thought

“Love blinds. We have both tried to give our sons, not what they needed, but what we needed. We’ve been so busy trying to rewrite our own pasts, we’ve blighted their present.”
So I did it. The book that has been hurting my poor, Harry Potter loving heart since it's release last month. Honestly, I don't know how to feel.
I went into this with very low expectations. I've read the spoilers, I've seen the reviews. I've seen so many criticisms of this, of J.K, of the writing the plot the characte ...more

The Cursed Child: But... I'm a Harry Potter book!
Me:

Ok, I'm going to start this review with a warning. This review is going to have some spoilers dotted about in it. I would try not to include any but I really don't see it happening as it's hard to me to explain the things I did and didn't like about it without saying exactly what those things are. I won't be putting in spoiler tags because there will probably be a lot. If you don't want any spoilers, I would suggest you just don't read this re ...more

BOOK REVIEW: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, Jack Thorne There have been a lot of feelings flying around since the announcement of the “8th Harry Potter book”, especially once it sunk in that this was going to be the script of the West End play, rather than the format so many Harry Potter fans have grown up expecting. There was excitement, of course, followed closely by the concern that a script would be hard to get lost in, and that maybe our dear J.K. was perhap

Firstly, can I just say that I have been waiting to read this for so long, and nothing quite is like the feeling of having a new Harry Potter book in my hands. A feeling I'll sorely miss, now. ...more

Oh my word. *Review will follow shortly* I just need some time to process everything that I endured. I was an emotional wreck throughout Part II, but now I am simply numb. I have so many questions! I don't know whether to be disappointed or content. I think I'll settle for a mixture of both, as I wipe happy tears from my eyes❤️ *Crawls into blanket cave to hide for a few days*

I won't spoil anything don't worry! (and I'll mark spoilers appropriately)
I knew that I would cave in the end and read this!
And you know what??
I'm glad I did.
The contradicting reviews were already in yesterday, with the release of the title. And of course there would be both positive and negative feedback. It's one of the largest franchises out there.
My advice? Ignore them. Just consider that you get one more chance to go back. To Hogwarts, among your beloved characters, plus a bunch of new ones ...more

2024: when this was released, my now husband surprised me by taking me to London to see it live and proposed that same week. Rereading it brings back that magic. This is not a book. It is a play and it is written that way. It's not so much the eighth story but more reading HP in another Medium. It was incredible to see on the stage, though.
2016:
can't wait to see this live! :) Scorpious is the bestist by the way!

I almost don't know how to review this. I absolutely loved it. It was a really, really quick read because of the play format and I enjoyed being back in the Hogwarts world again with a new generation.
Did it truly feel like a J.K. Rowling Harry Potter story? No. It was missing all the fantastic descriptions that made that world what it was to begin with. ...more

Harry Potter & the cursed child was such a splendid read! So gripping and engaging (esp. when my sis & I read it together). It's so refreshing to see how our beloved heroic characters are doing after 19 years. I would love to see the play. & I enjoyed the emotional friendship development. I think it's going to be magical and mesmerising!
