I havent read Arabian Nights but I really loved the re-telling of it. I cant even remember or pronounce all of the names, though.
I cannot believe it just ended.. I thought Khalid was so bad and cruel. But something happend to him and it lead him to kill all these girls.
"I shall take from you your city. I shall take from you your dreams. And I shall take from you these lives, a thousandfold."
Tariq is trying for her to be safe but there is something that he didnt notice. Her love to Khalid...

LOVED, LOVED this book! <3
The plot was intriguing which captivated me from the start. The characters were unique and complex especially Shahrzad's husband, Khalid. The writing was detailed and descriptive so i could imagine it in my head quite vividly. The use of Arabic culture and language also made the story more interesting! I much want to read this book again! :)))))

The Wrath and the Dawn is a retelling inspired by One Thousand and One nights, centers around a 16 yr old girl named, Shahrzad LOVED, LOVED this book! <3

The Wrath and the Dawn is a retelling inspired by One Thousand and One nights, centers around a 16 yr old girl named, Shahrzad. She lives in a land called, Khorasan. It is ruled by a 18 yr old boy-king named, Khalid and every day he takes a new bride to have her killed the next day at dawn. He gives no explanation s to why he does it. So after Shahrzad's friend, Shiva is killed by Khalid. Shahrzad vows revenge and volunteers to be is next bride with the intention of murdering him.

However, all is not what it seems in the palace, dark secrets are at play and Shahrzad is determined to get to the bottom of it. Now doesn't that sound hella interesting to you? XD

I absolutely loved reading this book. I thought that Shahrzad was a very smart character, she kind of reminded me a bit of Celeana Sarthdothian from TOG by Sarah J Maas. As both characters have very sharp tongues and are fierce,strong and determined women. However my only issue with Shahrzad was how quickly she fell in love with Khalid. It felt a bit rushed and impulsive. (IDK, don't judge me)

Khalid was a very suspicious character indeed. My initial thoughts to his personality was that he was a mysterious and quiet king. He seemed to be a feared but respected at the same time. But as the story progressed and we discovered more about why he killed his brides, i began to empathize his situation. Khalid is now one of my favorite characters in the book and i think Shahrzard and Khalid are a great couple. XD

I personally didn't like Tariq. I found him to be possessive,arrogant and a bit selfish and his sections were a little boring to me.

My only other issue with this book was the name pronunciation which got me confused with which character was who, so if you guys could clarify this, it would be a big help:)

Who is Rech? And is the Sharbam (2nd best swordsman, i think) Jalal?

All in all i really enjoyed this book. I was enthralled most of the time and would suggest this to anyone who loves magic, Arabic culture and fascinating plot lines. And i cant wait for the sequel!!! :) <3

I love a good love story. Especially when there is magic and uncertainty and danger!
There is so much that can happen, so many things not yet addressed. I'm pre ordering the next book!!! I hate that I have to wait almost 4 months for it! ...more

From all the good reviews, I expected more! it was really ok, nice reading and easy, but it was nothing special. It was too much like the original "Sherazade e as 1001 noites" and I already knew the others stories that she told him. The romance between Shazi and Khalid and the rest of the plot didn´t really add anything. So, I like it, and I´m going to read the second book, but with no great expectation! ...more

It's hard to find a book that encompasses all the aspects you love. It's always missing that one thing, whether it be not liking the main character or not enjoying the genre. For me, this book had everything I like in a book. The Wrath and the Dawn had a beautiful romance, a captivating plot, dynamic side characters, and of course, a background of a fairytale. I always love a good retelling.
Shahrzad is by far one of my favorite literary characters of all time. I loved watching her hatred of Kha ...more
