El ritmo de la novela es bastante rápido, porque todo pasa en muy poco tiempo, pero siento que solo termina dándole vueltas a lo que estaríamos dispuestos a hacer para sobrevivir, y creo que ese tema ya está muy gastado y no aporta nada realmente nuevo.

I think this book was simply not for me. I am obviously waaaay out of the YA range, so the story of 4 kids trying to survive a tap out and their emotions, and feelings and hormones did not really appeal to me. The premise was very interesting and I was drawn to it because I am familiarized with the concept -having grown in the north of Mexico, south of the USA, I am aware of the reality of lack of water. I think this book was simply not for me. I am obviously waaaay out of the YA range, so the story of 4 kids trying to survive a tap out and their emotions, and feelings and hormones did not really appeal to me. The premise was very interesting and I was drawn to it because I am familiarized with the concept -having grown in the north of Mexico, south of the USA, I am aware of the reality of lack of water. While growing up there were times when water availability was rationalized at certain times of the day. So I was very keen on reading a story set within this context -the sudden loss of water in Southern California and the disaster that would most likely follow. However, I just felt that the premise was lost among so many points of view, and there was not really an explanation or in depth thought of how the society arrived there. We heard the voices of four main characters and then some snapshots from other people -journalists, or just random people which I felt really added nothing to the story. Also, at times the characters were too dumb or too spoiled or too psycho... I don't know. I am not sure this is a back book in itself (it has very high ratings) but it was not for me.

Este libro simplemente no funcionó para mí. Creo que tiene que ver que definitivamente ya no soy parte de la audiencia a la que está dirigido -young adult- pero también creo que sí tiene bastantes fallas. En principio la historia me interesó por el tema, el cual he conocido de cerca: la posibilidad real de que un día la humanidad se quede sin agua. Crecí en el norte de México, al sur de los EUA, y la falta de agua es algo constante -cuando crecía, no era extraño que el agua estuviera limitada a ciertos horarios, y que efectivamente hubiera multas por desperdiciarla. Entonces me pareció interesante una historia que se basara en ello. Sin embargo, creo que en este libro la falta de agua en el sur de California se vuelve una excusa para situar a unos adolescentes quejumbrosos, hormonales, emocionales. No sé, pero simplemente no pude conectar con ellos y la verdad todos me cayeron mal. Pero de una mala forma. Hubo momentos en que me parecieron como chicos consentidos que no tenían nada qué hacer. Asimismo, había momentos en que el autor introducía como "snapshots", como periodistas, brigadistas, pero que al final no aportaban nada a la historia. Un "ni fu ni fa" como una catedral. Una lectura monótona, aburrida, en la que la sinopsis tiene mejor pinta que el libro en sí.

Un 4.5, que tiene un par de cosas que no me convencen, pero en general ¡Una lectura adictiva! Me lo he bebido... y nunca mejor dicho
Lo intenté empezar hace unos meses, pero no era el momento, las primeras páginas me parecieron demasiado reales con lo que se estaba viviendo, así que lo volví a intentar ahora que la cosa está más calmada.

Soy gran fan del autor y después de desconexión y la guadaña esperaba un libro impactante. Me gustó pero siento que es una versión un poco más juvenil, o quizás al ser un libro corto no permite tanta profundidad. Por otro lado, estaba emocionalmente complicada cuando lo leí y no fue la mejor elección de mi parte. ¿Recomiendo este libro? ¡Por supuesto! Pero prefiero las otras sagas.
