Merricat vive junto a su hermana Constance y a su tío Julián en la mansión de los Blackwood. Esta es una familia de clase alta que vive junto al pueblo, a los que siempre han menospreciado, y quienes les devuelven el odio de distintas maneras.
El resto de la familia Blackwood murió en un envenenamiento masivo, ya que tomaron azúcar con arsénico, que alguien había agregado en el azucarero. La principal sospechosa fue Constance, la hermana mayor, pero resultó absuelta en el juicio.

This is an amazing book, you get scared not because scary stuff happens, but because this book shows you in first plane, how awful mankind can be, when faced with what feels different.
And yes one of the two girls is apparently a killer, and poisoned her family, but yet somehow that is less scary than the townspeople behavior.
A book completely focused on character exposure, you end up feeling like you have met Merricat from old times, her hopes, her delusions, her childish ways ...more

Mi personaje favorito fue Merricar, con todo y el secreto que conocemos en el último tercio de la historia: me parece que tiene muy claro lo que quiere y cómo conseguirlo, su vida es sencilla y así quiere que permanezca. Lo que más quiere en el mundo es a su hermana y a su gato, además de su privacidad en la casa.
Constance me pareció un personaje, al principio, muy soso, pero conforme sabemos lo que verdaderamente sucedió con la familia, me fue cayendo mejor y al final definitivamente simpaticé ...more

Amazing! I'm still thinking about it. What did I just read? And it already has been a whole day. Wow, I'm fascinated with her writing and it's just my first book by Shirley Jackson, so I cannot wait to read more of her books.
