I used to love the movie when I first saw it (2005), and I always love the Japanese culture, but this story is about sacrifice, pain and suffer of Chiyo.
Remains me about a novel that I used to watch called Oshin (1983), about a Japanese little girl, who has to clean a Dojo like Cinderella.

Chiyo es la menor de 2 hermanas. Su madre, desde que ella puede recordar, está enferma (postrada en su lecho), y su padre, pescador, apenas tiene dinero para mantener a la familia. Llega un instante (cuando la madre está a punto de morir), en que ambas hermanas son vendidas por el padre a un señor empresario que tiene mucho dinero, teniendo destinos diferentes: la hermana mayor, Satsu, es vendida a una casa de prostitutas, y la menor, Chiyo, es vendida a una casa de geishas como aprendiza ...more

I really loved it, is a really good book because it not only has a great story but it also has an incredible historic value, because it ends with that belief that geisha were equal to a prostitute, and it also tells a lot of the life in Japan at that time. Definitely a book that I won't regret reading again sometime .
