Siempre me he sentido atraída hacia el thriller psicológico y este libro me enganchó bastante rápido, la narración en primera persona de los personajes centrales le da el enfoque y efecto preciso a la hora de entender la psique y la oleada de sentimientos, alegrías y frustraciones vividas durante toda la trama.
"el amor es un arma de doble filo" y vaya que lo es, los plost-twist me dejaron loca, amaba y odiaba a Amy.

Siempre que me enfrento a un best seller lo hago con precaución; más si es del género negro. Pero debo decir que esta novela me ha sorprendido gratamente.

La historia contada a 2 voces (Nick y Amy), los giros de la trama, los personajes secundarios, hacen que sea una novela intrigante y entretenida, que lees entre el asombro y el mosqueo (admitámoslo, no sale ningún personaje que pueda considerarse al menos "agradable"; todos están bastante desquiciados).

Lo que más me ha gustado es el trasfondo s Siempre que me enfrento a un best seller lo hago con precaución; más si es del género negro. Pero debo decir que esta novela me ha sorprendido gratamente.

La historia contada a 2 voces (Nick y Amy), los giros de la trama, los personajes secundarios, hacen que sea una novela intrigante y entretenida, que lees entre el asombro y el mosqueo (admitámoslo, no sale ningún personaje que pueda considerarse al menos "agradable"; todos están bastante desquiciados).

Lo que más me ha gustado es el trasfondo social de la historia; la crisis económica que nos ha golpeado como un mazo desde hace años (y que -digan lo que digan- salvo para algunos privilegiados, aún sigue campando a sus anchas por el mundo). La desesperanza que acompaña al desempleo, la pérdida de poder adquisitivo, la necesidad de reinventarte, la incapacidad de superar una situación sobrevenida e inesperada. Y ciertamente Nick y Amy son afortunados porque, a pesar de perder mucho, tienen un colchón que les permite seguir viviendo con cierta calidad de vida (ya quisiera verles cobrando el subsidio de desempleo de nuestro país, entonces sí que se iban a desesperar...), pero tal vez por eso, las consecuencias de la crisis a ellos les afectan más, les hacen más vulnerablkes psicológica y emocionalmente. 2 jóvenes de éxito, con trabajo, casa, dinero, relaciones sociales, prestigios... que de repente ven cómo su vida conocida se viene abajo, y no saben adaptarse a esta nueva realidad.

Por supuesto, también la trama, pero no quiero hablar de ella por no destriparla. Sí es cierto que ya imaginaba algo semejante a lo que es el "giro" esencial de la novela, no me pilló del todo de sorpresa, pero cómo sigue la novela después de ese "giro" me parece buenísimo; especialmente, cómo acaba la novela. Que no es el final esperado, ni siquiera el deseado, pero es probablemente el final más coherente posible. Y desolador.

Un libro merecedor de 3 estrellas que se lleva 4 por el capítulo de ala "chica enrollada", para mi una crítica feroz a esta sociedad que presume de feminista, pero que sigue anclada en estereotipos y clichés, y que te permite entender (ver) mejor a Amy. Sin duda, mi parte preferida del libro.

Recomendable como lectura algo intrascendente, pero que hace pensar (si no has visto la película, imagino; yo lo haré en breve) ...more

The. Book. First". I ignored that label, because it was stupid and I forgot this story was, in the beginning, a book. When I watched the movie, I was awe-struck. It was /amazing/, so interesting, with cool shots, nice story, /nice/ characters and actors (gee, Ben Affleck, you nailed it). I loved the movie, but at the middle I realized I kinda knew where it was going.

I ignored that label, because it was stupid and I forgot this story was, in the beginning, a book. When I watched the movie, I was awe-struck. It was /amazing/, so interesting, with cool shots, nice story, /nice/ characters and actors (gee, Ben Affleck, you nailed it). I loved the movie, but at the middle I realized I kinda knew where it was going.
After three hours of the movie, I decided I wanted to know the book, I wanted to know how faithful and how good the book could be. And man, I was not disappointed.

The way I read the book is far from good. There is kind of that sense of knowing what's going to happen, of not "enjoying" the twists and turns because you already know it, but I always assumed I had the "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" Syndrome, where knowing what is going to happen doesn't affect you as long as the way is delivered is good. This is a god damn long book, I actually thought that it would take me a week or so of reading and switching between school and everything. It didn't last to five days. I couldn't stop. I knew where everything was going but I was so bewitched...

I didn't properly liked the first part, for many reasons I can say that Nick Dunne is, in fact, an asshole. Not the kind of asshole who does asshole things, but more like the asshole character you have to endure in order to progress in the story. He is very dense for someone in his situation and, even if he claims to "know" the way he should react, he simply doesn't which makes him loke even less sympathetic and more like a guilty man who feels no remorse. He is completely not genre savvy. The way the story is delivered makes you think that he is in fact the killer! Every single one of his chapters is writen in such a way you actually, like Go, wonder if this man killed his wife and if he didn't, how can he be so cool and calm and collected...

But I loathed Diary!Amy, I loathed her because I knew and I felt how she was faking. Is not only because I watched the movie first and I knew what was going on, mind you. It was mostly that sense of reading a fake character (as fake as it can get). With things brought out of books, trying to have empathy with a character that is really not a nice character, something is off about this character. Something is not right here.

That's when you realized yo kinda actually like Nick. You understand a little of what is going on; you're only seeing what your eyes want to see and you are kind of making assumptions around Amy. She is this, she is that, she must have been this way... but it all rubbs in the worng way. Amy is /nothing/. She is not the Amazing Amy, nor Diary!Amy or Cool Girl!Amy. Amy is a no one, a sociopathic chamaleon that adapts herself into the circunstances.

I loved when I reached the second part. I actually told my friend: finally I can see the true Amy, and I like her better. Finally we can stop pretending to be a nice character and a normal reader. We are not. We, just like them, are as sick as Amy and Nick and we are god damned bewitched by their relationship. I just loved the cynical deliver. I was haunted by this city rich girl, that is a complete sociopath in the same way I was haunted by Francis Underwood. You know there is something wrong with them, you know you should despise them. You feel in your bones the need to simply reject them and to tell the world they are bad people and they sould be punished.

But then you're not. You see, there is this morbid fascination with Amy Elliot Dunne; you despise what she is doing, you think she is way over the top, and she is in fact. She thinks of herself as some kind of Greek God. She is cruel, she is mean, she is sexual, she is full of herself. She has the oh-so-called only child syndrome. She is a little Napoleon. She is Zeus and Hera and Aphrodite and Ares. She is a control freak, she is always right, she is always looking at the future and planning each step ahead of everyone. She. Is. The. Amazing. Amy. But she is not. She is flawed, just like her husband. Only that she is willing to kill, to destroy, to crash and burn everything around her just to get what she wants, because, as the book says: she has the last word. Always.

For me, this is a true love story. Is the complex side of two sick minds that end up together against all things. Two minds that are nothing without the other, because they get the best and the worst of the other. If I told this to anyone, they would think I am crazy, but at the end you can see it, just as Nick sees it: there is no one but Amy for him because he is sick in the same way that she is. Unstable people get with unstable people, just that Amy is a little bit odd. More than him, at least. She does what he can't bring himself to do. Both want to run away from their responsabilities, both of them want to play pretend, to be the one with the last word... love is war, it truly is.

Is an easy reading. It doesn't get too dense and the pacing is quick, is weird that you get stucked in some place, and usually this kind of stories would have took a little more of time, just by thinking in the circumstances of everything. It takes her almost two months to make her "heel face turn", it takes it's time and still the story keeps moving, to know more about Amy Elliot Dunne and her twisted psycothic mind. Because, let me tell you, this is her story and we, like Nick, can't run from her, no matter how far or how fast. ...more

BLUF: Great story with a poor ending.

The premise of this book is pretty simple. Wife goes missing. Husband didn't do it. Police think he did. It's an irresistible storyline.

Which is why you will keep reading even after you realize that the husband is a dope, the wife is likeable but socially ridiculous, and that the story continues despite having nothing interesting to share...

Well hace mucho que empece a leerlo pero no lo soporte se me hacia demasiado aburrrido asi que creo que le dare otra oportunidad para saber si Amy esta tan loca como dicen, no se cuando lo leere pero hare el intento de empezarlo lo mas posible.
