A nice little book on how Christians should see art. Does the Bible forbid the making of art? Does art have to be "Christian" to be worthwhile? Schaeffer looks at art in the Bible and answers these questions. This book is two lectures, so (as will happen with this kind of book) the second half is a little repetitive.

This short work-essay by Francis Schaeffer leaves you wanting much more! There are so many Christians in modern history that reject the need for excellency in the arts, and this book shows a strong biblical case against that idea. This was a great little read. In 2 essays, Schaeffer first attacks the notion that because of the 2nd commandment, Christians shouldn’t create art. He shows how art is commanded and celebrated throughout the Bible. Secondly, Schaeffer gives 11 short principles or guides for how Christians should examine any piece of art. This was a helpful book for me.

This book will probably rate higher for people who are more interested in art and philosophy. It did not resonate so much with me personally. I found the first part of the book most interesting where Schaeffer shows from the Bible how God appreciates art and even instructs his people to be artistic.
