I think I read this in college, but that is a long time ago, so this book was ripe for a re-read. I read my, long since deceased, father's copy, so I enjoyed the pleasure of his occasional marginalia, from when he read it in 1964, mostly in the form of simple underlines. It gave me pleasure to realize that I would have underlined the same passages, observations like, "the white man prefers to keep the black man at a certain human remove because it is easier for him thus to preserve his simplicit ...more
