Freaking epic !The older I get the more and more I love urban fantasy with romance

What to expect in this book:
> a kick-ass protagonist that has a loose mouth and goes by her own rules
> a thrilling mystery that keeps you on your toes
> unforgettable characters

Before reading:

The summary immediately pulled me in. It was official after the first chapter; I was knee-deep in LOVE with it!
The way the author(s) introduced the protagonist, Kate Daniels, was intriguing and gives you a slight heads up of the action to be seen in the series ;)

After reading:

Reread 2019: From a 4.5 it goes down to 2.5/3. I still love this series. I love the world building, magic system and the inclusions of lore. I will probably reread this in another 3 years or so but for now I have issues.

I never understood, even during the my first read, why it was Kate's fault that they mistook Crest as the upir. I read that passage over and over and she never mentioned him until Curran/the Pack did. So WHY does she get blamed when they get it wrong. They practically strong armed her into getting "evidence" (blood) and then is mighty pissed!!! (WHAAA?) when it fell through.

How do you get blamed for "making mistakes" investigating an ongoing case. Curran already insulted her and called her a glory hound when she felt something was off and the dots didn't connect with Olathe and the missing women. So when she gets it right, no apologies, no acknowledgement. None whatsoever and instead she allows herself to be pushed around and heaped on blame for testing a theory, and not her own?

The Pack is supposed to look out for themselves so how is it her fault that being a temporary investigator, not even a full employee of the Order with limited resources and questionable allowed given authority, it's suddenly her fault Jennifer Ying died. She was already missing. How is one person to blame where all 3 groups, the Order, the Pack and the People were also doing there own searches? The only person in that moment who had the right to be angry was Crest towards Kate. He was justified; everyone else, NO.

I get that these instances is supposed to make her look flawed and her mistakes defines her character but...you don't make up shit just so your MC can be relatable. It's like her earlier "sacrifice" didn't happen and she's just a stupid merc out to take credit.

I can probably recount 2 or 3 more of the same but it's beside the point. Onward to the 2nd book. ...more
