Hate to Love You in Fallen Into Tijan Books

A quick review for once :-)

When I buy a Tijan book, I do it because:

-I want high school or college romance -> got it here;

-I want female characters that have been hurt one way or another in the past and used to or wanting to "stay on the outskirts" as opposed to "be in the light" -> Kennedy has been hurt the past year. She's been used for her brother's fame and does not want to get noticed anymore;

-I want some plot and conspiracy in the background. Usually a "rival" jealous of the heroine or wan ...more

I have absolutely loved Tijan since I was introduced to the Fallen Crest crew. Since that initial series for me, her writing has only improved and I've gotten more addicted. I can devour her words like it's the last slice of cheesecake in the world.

And this book? No different than her others... spectacular writing and captivating characters with one plot that will hook it's hooks deep, right from the very start.

4.5 Stars! Tijan is still a new-to-me author, but I’ve cracked the seal and I’m slowly catching up. Hate to Love You is my favorite book so far.

Those may sound crazy, but after enduring high school hell, each rule is a necessity for her sanity and survival. She could be anonymous in college. No whispers or rumors or jealousy. 4.5 Stars! Just a few loyal friends to pass the time and then studying hard to complete her pre-law degree. Simple. Or at least it could have been, if Shay Coleman hadn’t come along. Shay is exactly what she was hoping to avoid. He’s the star quarterback, big man on campus, and has a readily available smirk to broadcast his arrogance. Kennedy hates him on sight and vows to ignore him. Too bad they have a Poli-Sci class in common. Soon, Coleman isn’t so hard to ignore due to a big group project. Kennedy clings to her rules like a lifeline, but rules are made to be broken, and Shay is just the guy to break hers. Can Kennedy cope with the way things are changing? Setting her rules aside means being put in the spotlight. Anything can happen. As danger stalks closer, can Kennedy come to terms with who she wants to be, and give Shay a chance? Or will her fears win out and she’ll risk losing out on the most important moments of her life?

Hate to Love You (HTLY) is in the exact genre I have been craving lately. It also had a bit of the drama I’ve become slightly addicted to. I really enjoyed Kennedy. She was a fun heroine. I thought maybe her bitchy demeanor would annoy me, but it just made me like her more. My heart hurt for what she had to endure in high school, and it explained why she was so closed off. In college, though, she was determined to be a different person. She was sassy, funny, smart, observant, standoffish, and sometimes completely ridiculous. I think the moments she was ridiculous were my favorites. Like demanding her brother not acknowledge her or be seen with her on campus. Lol. It was hilarious. That’s not to say that she didn’t have her issues either. She did. She didn’t trust easily and her tendency to go a little off the rails when she was passionate about something was a little worrisome. She was still awesome, though. Shay was a bit of an enigma. We didn’t get his POV, so he stayed that way until our heroine learned about him. Still, despite his popularity and talent, he was smart, sweet, protective and caring. He felt deeply, but kept that away from most people. I adored how he took care of Kennedy. Their relationship didn’t start normally, what with Kennedy doing all she could to show she hated him. Lol. But it was cute, watching them transition to the couple they became. And intimate scenes were steamy sweet. On the whole, I loved the book. Supporting cast was funny and had me wanting more stories. Especially Kristina, Casey, Linde, and Gage’s. The storyline was one I haven’t really read a lot. The plot points fit the overall storyline, even if one was brutally scary and another kinda came from left field. It was plain to see that the conflict and resolutions affected our main group characters greatly, but I do wish we saw a bigger change in their environment and the school after the different incidents. As I said in the intro, HTLY is my fave Tijan book so far. It had everything I was looking for, and I loved seeing our hero and heroine together so much. My biggest grievance, though, is that there is no epilogue. I freely admit that I’m an epilogue-whore. I can’t help it. I wanna envision my HEA long into the future. I would have loved to see what Kennedy and Shay had become after being together a while, and where some of the other characters ended up. I guess for now, I’ll just have to write my own future HEA. Lol. I look forward to reading more Tijan books and falling more in love with her characters. ♡ ...more
