I read this back in 2012 and now again in 2022. Didn't like it as well the second time. My book club enjoyed how Bryson took them back to their childhood growing up in Des Moines. They agreed it felt that there was a lot of exaggeration - but loved the descriptions of the shops, restaurants and local attractions. If you grew up in Iowa(even several generations after the author like myself) this book will likely delight you. In fact, even if you've never been to Des Moines, the author's wit and charm will make you wish you had.
