You guys, what do I even say about The Mothers by Brit Bennett. The pain in this book is so deep and dark, but her writing of it is simply stunning. Do you know that low buzz/tingle you get in your soul when you know you're reading incredible writing? That's how I felt reading this book. One secret with the three main characters revolving around it and a whole church community as a secondary group revolving around them carries this story. All Iowa read selection for 2020. This read almost like a young adult novel for me, in a good way. Very fast, easy to follow, but still thought provoking. The author tackled some very tough subjects like abortion, racial stereotypes, economic class issues, religion, and gender biases in a beautiful way, that didn't seem over the top, but felt very realistic.
