This novel chewed up and spit out my heart over and over again with its quiet desperation and connections between people amongst the horror of war.
Incredibly moving and compulsively readable with characters that will live in your heart forever.

When I sent my husband to the library with my list of requests, I also told him to surprise me. He came home with 3 surprises, 2 of which I'd already read and this one which was on my "to-read" list but I hadn't gotten to yet. He was bummed but I told him that shows how well he knows me since he picked things I'd already chosen on my own. So that's how this random reader ended up with this selection at this time...

If there is one genre I love, it's World War II fiction. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr did not disappoint. It's the story of MarieLaure, a blind teenager and how her life crossed paths with Werner, a Bright German teenager obsessed with radios. It is devastating to think of all the ways people were made to suffer during WWII. But stories of humanity among all the inhumanity never fail to stun me. This story was very beautifully told.
