I went to a reading from Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal earlier this month. He gave such life to the characters when he read and I couldn't wait to purchase his book. After his reading, he ended up at the same restaurant my friends and I had chosen for lunch. He was by himself, so we invited him to join us. My friends and I go to the Iowa City Book Festival every year and this author created the best memory I've had there. In 2015 we went to his reading; I already had the book on my "to-read" list but hearing him speak bumped it up higher on the list and we all bought copies that he signed.
