I've seen a lot of goofy self-help books masquerading as real science books. This was the opposite. Refreshing.
I wasn't crazy about the hard-edged cognitive-psychological conclusions the author drew, though. I just can't swallow the extremity of the position that it's all about willing your neurons into place, and genes mean nothing. While many genetic blueprints can be overcome, I feel the author downplayed the strength of their influence on our psyches. ...more
