What Members Thought
Readers seem divided on this one, but I'm firmly in the "loved it" camp. I never mind when writing rambles a bit, so long as I'm enjoying the journey and this trip had plenty to offer: a compelling main character (and some interesting side characters) beautiful prose, and such vivid descriptions of time and place that I felt like I was walking down the street in mid twentieth century Harlem. I read the first 200 pages and the “story” was meandering all over the place. I skimmed the rest of the book and still didn’t get this book. I usually like this author, but this one was a total bust for me. The look at 1960’s Harlem was the only interesting part.
