Lemony Snicket seems like an ordinary boy... for about two paragraphs. And then we clearly see that he is not. Anyone who has read A Series of Unfortunate Events Pack (Books 1-4) will know that already, but at least for book 1 having read the first series, to which this is a prequel, is not a requirement. You can have just as much fun with Lemony Snicket on his mad journey and mysterious missions without knowing him. The only prerequisite is that you enjoy nonsense. This is Alice in Wonderland l

apparently this is the first in a series that serves as a kind of prequel to the "series of unfortunate events" books. i'm looking forward to the other installments because i would definitely like to know more about the VFD organization. i wonder how he'll organize that whole story in only four books. this didn't have quite the whimsy & excitement of the "series of unfortunate events," but i do prefer daniel handler's children's books to most of his other work.

Meh... I read the first 50 pages of this and was unimpressed. Snicket isn't nearly as clever as he thinks he is.
