I'm not a huge reader of middle grade but I loved this. I recently watched a video from How to Train Your Gavin and he made a video of the top 50 middle grade books you should read and this one was pretty high up on his list. I am so glad I took the chance on it and read it. So cute but a fabulous storyline.

What a beautiful book. I'd heard such good things about it that I thought it couldn't possibly be that good. It it exceeded expectations. I couldn't put it down. It is unique, timeless and eloquently written.
Marinka is young and set on making her own destiny even if it means changing someone else's, but that is the mindset of the young and only time and experience alters our perception on how we should think of others.

Retelling of the Russian folktale of the Baba Yaga. I enjoyed it quite a bit and am guessing that reading it physically you would be able to enjoy some interesting pictures that Ms. Anderson drew if some of her other works are any indication. While I did like this, young Marinka was somewhat annoying in always being so dead set against whatever her baba wanted her to do. I had forgotten just how annoying children of that age could be.
