Reading this in French probably wasn't the best way to appreciate it for my first time through. But I still enjoyed it. There were certain scenes that were extremely frustrating to read--not because I didn't understand them, but because they made me feel so much anxiety--like I was having some sort of heart attack (cf: Lucky's speach with his hat. Stuttering and stammering and repeating himself over and over... I seriously almost had a seizure). I can't imagine sitting through this in a theater.

I read this in part because my mom said it was something I should read just to have read. I also read this to get an idea of Tragicomedy. It was an interesting story that brought up a lot of interesting ideas. It's a moment in time, but yet, there's something fluid about it.
My copy used to be my grandmother's and it has some handwriting in it, since she used it for class, so that was interesting as well. ...more

Loved it! Waiting for Godot, Waiting for God, Waiting for Guffman. Aren't we all waiting for some sort of epiphany? Revelation? Divine insight? I know I am there, standin' by the road, waitin'. I would love to see this performed in live theater. I listened to the recorded-books version. An audio recording of a live play. I got the vibe via the actual voices. I suspect it wouldn't be near as vivid if one read the actual text of the play. A kind fellow Goodreads friend sent me a connection to view

Continuing my list of Irish authors with Samuel Beckett, but because I don't like to read plays, I chose to listen to Waiting for Godot and what a treat it was. Sad, comic, depressing, uplifting. Nothing happens, a lot happens, and it all happens twice! Look for symbolism or not. I'd love to see it performed.
