An elegiac yet also cheery meditation on existence, death and happiness. Kitchen is a stronger, better work than Moonlight Shadow, but the latter is also worthy, if not as substantial. A good introduction to Japanese literature.

Banana is eloquent at writing about loss but the references to transwomen could be phrased better.
Moonlight Shadow was sparse and much better.

Not for me. None of the characters were relatable for me. I read the first 30 pages and skimmed the rest.
