Pat Barker does not shy away from the brutality of the Trojan War. For anyone wondering, I think this Patroclus can be reconciled with the one from The Song of Achilles, he is at least kind to Briseis.
I'm almost finished with this. I'm disappointed. Loved the trilogy about WWI, in those voices. This voice . . . Why oh why go anachronistic? It's very annoying to read about Trojan women referring to "bums" and talking cockney. We don't know this Greek or Trojan diction. Keep it simple. And for Briseis, I think a third person p.o.v. would have elicited more of the sympathy Barker (for excellent reasons) wants us to feel.
