An excellent book about nuclear weapons technology and how it has been and should be controlled. Safety issues are a major theme, as are the hundreds of accidents that have occurred involving nuclear weapons. As is pointed out numerous times in the book, it is largely a matter of luck that none of these weapons has been accidentally detonated. It's a wonder we all lived through this! The book is an in-depth review of the history of nuclear weapons, from their first use in WWII, through their proliferation, to the present day. That history is the backdrop for the specific detailed story of a nuclear missile accident in Arkansas. I found this a compelling true story and a well and clearly written history. I would recommend every American read this account. ...more
