When I saw the two prompts for my reading challenges this week (A book with a color in the title and A book that makes you nostalgic) the choice was obvious. This was one of my favorite books growing up, and I took pride in the fact that Wilson Rawls was something of a local celebrity, having lived very near Idaho Falls (where I grew up) during the years that he wrote this book.

This is a story of a much simpler time period in history. It is also a lost generation since I don't remember the last time a child went out and played. Now that we have technology which has made life easier kids have sadly lost imagination. I think it's good for kids to read these children's classics to know there was a time before Nintendo and X-box. I enjoyed this book which I somehow missed as a kid. Now to watch the movie.

LOOOOOOOOOOVED this book. I have read it at least 4 or 5 times. I cry every single time. I plan on reading it to my children as well. This is in my top 10 best books of all time. Great book.
