This was an eye-opening account of Kerman's time spent in prison. I wasn't sure what to expect. There's a lot of humor, a lot of frustration with the justice system, and a lot of realizations about the injustice involved. Parts of the book were quite moving and emotional, but some of the more serious issues (harassment from guards, lack of adequate healthcare for inmates, etc.) felt glossed over. I liked this memoir a lot. Honest and raised some really great points about the prison system. Enjoyed the stories of women camaraderie within lockup.
Contains adult content and ideas but nothing explicit. Watched the first Netflix episode on this show and just...NO. Don't watch. They "HBO'd" it all up. ...more

This was honestly one of the most intriguing and well written books I have read in a long time. The author tells her story thoughtfully and with great insight to the prison system in our country.
Not really a great book, but fine for background noise at work, which is why I downloaded it.
