Great book; amazing writing!

This is a complex story of, in essence, two young men trying to piece together an epic saga focused on events radiating out from the life of a flawed hero, Thomas Sutpen of Mississippi.

The two young men are friends at Harvard in 1910. The events they examine start in the early 1800's and move forward to 1910. They have only snippets and scraps of information, gleaned from various oral sources. They must use these to try to decide what actually happened.
