Nikki grew up in London living a fairly western life despite finding her Punjabi parents conservative. When Nikki dropped out of law school, she struggled with how disappointed her father was and then he passed without the chance for acceptance. Remember that time when you accidentally picked an NSFW title for book club to read?
Yeah. I do too. I don't know why I was surprised. The title includes the word erotic but
I didn't think the Punjabi widows would go as far as to reference the color and size of an aubergine.....but they did......Multiple times.
Every time I saw the font switch to italics - I pictured my fabulous group of friends reading and thinking "what it the H - are we going to discuss?".

This was a 2.5 for me, rounded up to a 3.
The weird thing about this book is that it's made up a bunch of opposites. I keep wanting to describe it as cute and lighthearted, which it is, but there are also sections of it that are quite dark, including a reference to a very violent suicide scene. This contrast is reflected throughout much of the book because this story is really two stories: one is a largely lighthearted and heartwarming story about a young woman figuring out her place in the worl ...more
