Rating this a 3.5. I had 2 tries with this book. The first try, I had to put it down, I got overwhelmed and felt the book's structure and flow too much to take in amidst my busy schedule. The second try, I was surprised as I was able to read the book more smoothly. There were still some challenges. I noticed that I had to finish a full chapter because I'll find it too hard to get back in the middle of one after a reading pause.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I skimmed the second half of the book once I'd more or less figured out the plot (and checked online to confirm) because as lyrical as the writing was, I somehow didn't really want to learn any more about the characters. Perhaps my current edgy, fidgety mood has caused this philistine impatience and my wish that the book were somewhat shorter!
