I might be overrating this a bit but I just can't help it. Yes, it's overlong (it is King though...) and it does take at least 100 pages to get off the ground ("Oough," as Holly Gibney would say) but once it gets going, I was really entertained from then on.
The A.V. Club called it "an 'It' for the Trump era," and I think that's an apt description. This is, for sure, King's best book in recent years. I was not a fan of the Bill Hodges trilogy, but the upside is that the best character from those ...more

I’d read “End of Watch” before this so I was familiar with one of the main characters, Holly Gibney, from her recurring role in the Bill Hodges trilogy, and knew some of her back story. However, I doubt it would have mattered if I hadn’t. The author put together a compelling story with a great cast of characters, including a truly chilling bad guy. In this story, a child is horrifically murdered and the local little league coach is accused of the crime. The evidence seems incontrovertible, until there is equally solid evidence to show that actually he was in a completely different city when ...more

I enjoyed this book, which combined some classic "King-esque" characters with one of his most interesting recent creations, Holly Gibney from the Bill Hodges trilogy. The story is classic King, a mix of horror, suspense, and supernatural.

Although I love a good mystery, I usually dislike horrors and thrillers, so I don't gravitate to King. But, Holly caught my eye, so I wanted to start at the beginning of the "series" (oddly, this book is listed as both the 1st and 6th in the Holly Gibney series).
I thoroughly enjoyed The Outsider. I switched between the eBook and the audiobook, which added so much depth to the characters. I think it is safe to say that no matter what genres you like, Stephen King can tell a story. ...more
