Despite some redundancy, Saramago provides moments of great lucidity regarding the human capacity for good and evil during the most amazing devastating of human events.
Such a dark and heavy story. I couldn't find a moment of happiness in it. While it was certainly well written I didn't enjoy it.

Interesting book. Almost worth four stars, but not quite. The writing style is hard to read, but the story is good. Required more concentration than usual, but at the same time I found myself skimming sometimes. Hard to explain. I am not sure whether or not I liked the ending.
