A beautiful and evocative exploration of society and the human spirit. Set in a quarantine facility during an epidemic of very contagious "white blindness". I think the book is intended to be an allegory but I couldn't get past the fact that this is not how an epidemic would be handled in the modern day. There were echoes here of the quarantine of leprosy sufferers in the 19th century. But even the Spanish flu epidemic was handled differently--the quarantined patients were provided medical care,

Apocalypse story or deep parable? It's both. Lots to learn and speculate about what things mean. Definitely worth the read.

One of the most disturbing books I have ever read. I don't know why I expected a book about a blindness epidemic to be less than apocalyptic.

I'm having a very hard time reading this book. Due to the lack of punctuation and the long rambling sentences that go on and on, I can't pay attention to the blasted thing. I really want to read this book but I just might have to give it up as a lost cause.
