Madeleine miller can certainly spin a tale. retelling myths in a way that endures and engrosses the reader. Written as a first person narrative the character of Circe as a daughter of Helios and a witch is laid out in its place in mythical history. I absolutely loved listening to this audiobook. The narrator was amazing and it made for such a magical listening experience. The only reason I gave 4⭐️ and not 5 was because I did feel it dragged on a bit during the Odysseus section. I understand that Circe was desperate for info about what was happening in the world, but it seemed more like a review of every Greek myth because it just went on too long. Overall though, a fantastic book! It was such a unique perspective on being a god.

I really enjoyed this. Granted, I love Greek mythology, so it wasn’t so hard to get me onboard with this book. But the Odyssey was never that interesting to me and that was the reference point I had for Circe (she was the one who turned Odysseus’ crew into pigs.) But Miller did a decent job introducing the other events Circe was directly involved in and getting her involved with the events her sister and brother were.
