Talk about an unreliable narrator! I knew something fishy was going on but I couldn't have guessed what it was in a million years.
I tend to dislike books with unreliable narrators (like Gone Girl) because I think character development suffers to some extent. Plus they tend to be gimmicky: everything builds up to the big reveal. The plot is hard to follow, too, because you're never sure what's true. This one was especially like that because it went back and forth in time.

Louise is a divorced single mother trying to balance working as a secretary in a psychiatry office and raising her young son, Adam. On a rare night out, Louise stops for a few drinks at a bar and meets a handsome man with whom she makes a quick connection. The special twist almost earned it a second star. But my god, do I loathe this style of thriller. Bland, incomplete characters, ridiculous lack of sense being necessary to propel the tissue-thin plot, endless pointless internal monologues.
I admit I wanted to reach the end. The narrators did an excellent job, so it was worth my while to listen rather than simply look up spoilers.

I thought I saw what was coming but I did not see what was coming. Very good book!
