Um. No.

Thanks to the publisher for an advance readers' copy.
It was such a pleasant surprise to receive an audio advance copy of this book! While I'm sure some people won't like the direction of the twist (and this is a true twist, unlike most, which are just the solution to the mystery...I'm looking at you, Girl on the Train...), I found it a refreshing update to the tired domestic psychological suspense genre. Talk about an unreliable narrator! I knew something fishy was going on but I couldn't have guessed what it was in a million years.
I tend to dislike books with unreliable narrators (like Gone Girl) because I think character development suffers to some extent. Plus they tend to be gimmicky: everything builds up to the big reveal. The plot is hard to follow, too, because you're never sure what's true. This one was especially like that because it went back and forth in time.

OMG!! I could not put this book down and can't stop thinking about it. Thankfully I already suffer from insomnia because I really didn't sleep until I finished reading it.

The special twist almost earned it a second star. But my god, do I loathe this style of thriller. Bland, incomplete characters, ridiculous lack of sense being necessary to propel the tissue-thin plot, endless pointless internal monologues.
I admit I wanted to reach the end. The narrators did an excellent job, so it was worth my while to listen rather than simply look up spoilers.
Look, even though they're different, they're marketed similarly and both have a fun twist at the end - compare this to ...more
