Why Not Me is a solid collection of essays. A few of the essays have a serious theme, but the majority of them do not. Ms. Kaling is charming storyteller (especially in reading the audiobook) and seems like a genuine, down-to-earth, fun person. A light, pleasant, quick read.
I've read many memoirs of this ilk and I must say that Mindy Kaling is one of, if not the most, self-absorbed of the lot. There is no depth to this book, just shallowness. Of her shows, I've only ever watched The Office and I think that may be a detriment to me enjoying this. I think you have to be a really, really big fan of Kaling to enjoy this book. I enjoyed the quirky and funny insight into Mindy’s life, although I had hoped for a few more laugh out loud moments from this book.

This book had some pretty decent essays that I really enjoyed, but as a whole it was just okay.
I think Mindy Kaling is much funnier than how this book read so I was a little disappointed. Her first book is much better and I would recommend that to someone who's not read Mindy Kaling before they read this one. ...more
