Well, that was interesting. I agree that it was original and well written. I liked (if not enjoyed) some of the stories, thought others were okay, and some just weren’t my cup of tea at all – I’m really not a fan of GLBT literature.
All in all, while there were some good points to this, there were also enough that just didn’t suit me that I rather suspect I won’t be reading the author again.

2.5 stars, rounded up to 3.
There were a few pieces in here that I really enjoyed. Carmen Maria Machado does well at science fiction, especially with medical epidemics. They were believable, heart breaking and very well-written. However, there are quite a few areas where the stories felt forced, where some of the fantastical elements felt thrown in there just for the sake of "wtf" being said by the reader. That caused the greater theme of some of the stories to be lost, which was unfortunate.

Interesting stories, the author's strong feminism very well represented. The ribbon story stands out as the best of the group.

Not rating because this book is so the opposite of what I prefer to read that it would be unfair.
