I enjoyed this book. No God stuff. Plenty of action. Each disaster was dealt with quickly - you didn't have to read 100's of pages before Eragon got himself out of each sticky situation. You can see a lot of reference to other writers work, particularly Eddings, McAffrey & Tolkien, but I still enjoyed it for what it is - a good piece of fantasy from a 16-year-old. Started well, but then meandered downhill at the same speed as the characters meandered across the continent. In all, unnecessarily long, and I think the others in the series are even longer, so I probably won't bother with them. Plus, so many fantasy tropes in one volume.
